It’s Almost Time for Dallas’ Annual Greenville Avenue St. Patrick’s Day Parade

St. Patrick's Day - Greenville AvenueIt’s Almost Time for Dallas’ Annual Greenville Avenue St. Patrick’s Day Parade!

The Greenville Avenue St. Patrick’s Day Parade can be compared to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. In fact it’s probably the closest you will come to that type of street celebration in Dallas, TX. Many people have attended and witnessed how the parade has evolved from its humble 1979 beginnings. Some might say it’s the largest St Patrick’s Day Parade in the Southwest, which is traditionally held the Saturday proceeding St. Patrick’s Day on March 17th.

The parade runs down Greenville Avenue in Dallas and culminates at a large block party. The block party often features a musical guest and for the day the streets remain full of foot traffic. This parade offers something for everyone’s taste, be it bad or good. Those who remember this parade’s humble beginnings could have never imagined it would reach these phenomenal proportions. With one hundred plus floats and attendance close to one hundred thousand, this “little neighborhood” parade rivals other top ten metropolitan areas such as Boston, Chicago, and New York.

The parade itself, while a blast for the attendees, is great for the local businesses as well as the real estate. People have been known to move down to the M Streets just to be near all of the action. Also most merchants rely on this day to boost profits. In fact the parade has grown to the point that it now has obtained the Dallas Mavericks as the official sponsor!

For those not interested in the lighter side of the day’s events be sure to check out the 5K Dash Down Greenville. This race benefits the North Texas Food Bank.

If you find yourself in Fort Worth, TX on Saturday, March 15th, check out Cowtown Goes Green. This is a family friendly St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Some of the events include free pony rides, live bands and a cattle drive at 4 PM.

There is so much to do in Dallas/Fort Worth. Now that the weather is starting to warm up it’s a great time to get out and enjoy the Dallas Arboretum. So after you partake of the St. Patrick’s Day festivities and rest up you should head out and take in the beautiful gardens.
