Thanksgiving Traffic Woes: Don’t Get Caught In This Dallas / Fort Worth!

Unless you are traveling by helicopter like Jay Z and Beyoncé in New York City then you will want to read this article. Since most of us are relying on our vehicles for transportation to and from Dallas this holiday season let’s talk about some places to avoid…unless of course you just need to get away from the relatives in which case the traffic might be a nice break.

Thanksgiving is the time that families get together to eat, watch football and generally catch up but plan ahead because it’s also the busiest travel holidays of the year. According to AAA approximately 43.4 million people will hit the roads this Thanksgiving holiday. The Wednesday preceding Thanksgiving and the Sunday following Thanksgiving are going to be the worst.

Also don’t forget that bad weather is also accountable for some delays. Just last year Superstorm Sandy cause havoc in New York being that it struck only a few weeks before Thanksgiving. In Portland, the commute was impacted by a nasty hail storm which caused many accidents and this year we have Winter Storm Boreas sending snow and ice to the Rockies and Southern Plains.

I’d say this is a good time to snuggle in front of the fire and stay inside but if you have to get out here are some places to avoid (according to weather.com/travel):

Los Angeles, California – you will need about 48% more time for your average commute. The peak times to avoid are 3 PM – 5 PM.

Seattle, Washington – you will need about 47% more time for your average commute and the times to avoid are 3 PM – 4 PM.

San Francisco, California – you will need about 36% more time for your average commute. The times are avoid are 3 PM – 4 PM.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – you will need about 26% more time for your average commute. The times to avoid are 3 PM – 4 PM.

Miami, Florida – this is the best of the worst only needing 23% more time for an average commute. The times to avoid are 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM.

Good news, Dallas, we didn’t make the list! Now that’s not to say we aren’t without our issues but with the opening of the LBJ Express Project (I-635) and the conversion of the one way streets in Downtown we should start to see some relief.

Here’s to wishing everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving! Should you find while you are home with all of your family it’s time for a larger home please give us a call. Now is a great time to buy and we can get you into your new home before your New Year party!!
